Grants for Groups

The following funds are available to all volunteers and voluntary and community sector organisations that operate within The London Borough of Sutton and the panel will meet twice a year in April and October to distribute grants.  For further information or to make an application contact the Volunteer Centre Sutton, 31 West Street, Sutton, SM1 3RS, or telephone 020 8661 5900 or email vcsutton@vcsutton.org.uk .
Approximately £1000 will be allocated annually across all funds. The maximum grant is £200.

Rewarding and Supporting Volunteer Participation (RSVP) Fund

In 2005-06 the Mayor of Sutton, Lesley O’Connell, dedicated the Mayor’s Fund to supporting volunteering in the borough.  The fund  will be administered by the Volunteer Centre Sutton.

The fund provides small grants to support, recognise and reward volunteers.

The fund’s objectives are:
  • To encourage and support voluntary and community sector groups

  • To promote volunteering as the key factor in community well-being.

Grants have already been given to help fund
  • A Christmas party for volunteers

  • A volunteer social event

  • Setting up a volunteer newsletter. 

The Melodie Shelbourne Memorial Fund

The “Nights Away” (Accessibility) Fund administered by the RSVP team at Volunteer Centre Sutton is Melodie Shelbourne’s Memorial Fund to support disabled members of the Scouting movement in Sutton District.  The purpose is to enable them to participate in “Nights Away” activities supported by volunteers who may need to be specially trained to fulfil that role.  Suggested applications could be for disability awareness training for Scouters; to fund a person to accompany a disabled Scout or transport to get them to an activity. All Groups using this resource are encouraged to operate an equal opportunities policy. The maximum grant is £200.

The Chris Wareing Memorial Fund

The Chris Wareing Memorial Fund was set up by the Volunteer Centre Sutton and this money is set aside for trustee training for local groups.

The fund's objectives are:

  • To encourage and support voluntary and community sector groups;

  • To strengthen the governing bodies of voluntary and community sector groups by providing training to trustees;

  • To promote volunteering as the key factor in community well-being.

The maximum grant is £100.
